'Globe' Raku Vessel by David Schembri
This elegant raku fired vessel by David Schembri showcases the elegance of raku. Raku pottery is fired outdoors in a propane fired gas kiln. The pottery going into the kiln is pre-coated with glazes containing copper and other metallic ingredients. After heating to a temperature of 1900 degrees F, the kiln is opened. The red-hot pots are removed an placed in metal contains lined with combustibles such as newspaper and wood shavings. Other organic materials are used to create the distinctive dark lines.
