Basic Metalsmithing: Tab Set Pendant with Joyce Lam Sunday Novmebr 17th
If you want to create a custom setting for a cabochon stone (or other flat
backed object), but don’t want to fabricate a soldered setting, then this cold connection
technique is for you! In this workshop, you’ll learn how to create a tab setting for your
flat backed stone or object. You’ll create a pendant setting out of Copper or Sterling
Silver, which can be customized with your own accents and finishing touches (e.g.,
textures, decorative borders, and cut outs). Finally, you’ll set your stone or object, and
bring home your unique tab set pendant!
Please bring your own cabochon stone (or other flat backed object, such as a
meaningful coin) to the workshop. Please keep the stone/object within this size range:
no smaller than 15x15mm, and no larger than 40x40mm, with a height of no more than
7mm. (If you don’t have a stone, one will be available to purchase at the workshop.)
Pre-Requisite Skills: No experience necessary; all levels welcome. Previous
experience with a jeweller’s saw would be beneficial to this class, as you’ll be able to
create a more elaborate setting in the allotted time frame, if desired.
