This striking pot is handmade by David Schembri, using an ancient technique called raku. There are several stages to creating this effect. During the second firing process, the pot is heated in outdoor kiln until red-hot, then placed in a metal container filled with combustibles. Horse hair, feathers, sugar and other organics help create the unique marks. David is a popular pottery instructor at META4 Gallery, as well as an accomplished potter.
Note: Raku fired pottery is for decorative use only and is not food safe or impermeable to water.
