Introduction to Glass Casting with Christy Haldane
Sculpt with Glass! This course will introduce students to contemporary glass through mould-making and cast glass. You will create your own clay model for open face casting, learn how to mix casting materials and create a mould to cast your clay model in glass. Reclaimed window glass will be used as a casting material so it's properties will be discussed and considered when designing your piece. Schedules for casting glass in a kiln, more advanced casting methods and how to finish your sculpture (cold working) will also be introduced.
This class takes place in Christy's studio in Douro-Dummer. It is recommended that you wear "paint clothes and shoes" since mould making is a messy process. You may also want to wear boots and bring footwear to change into once you are in the studio.
Safety glasses and respirators will be provided but if you feel more comfortable, please bring your own.
Please bring your own safety glasses.
