Drum Making: African Talking Drum or Gourd Drum - Sunday, August 27 - PORT PERRY
Make your own drum in just one day! Choose between an African talking drum or gourd drum. Make a rope- tuned drum out of a hard-shelled gourd. After cutting, cleaning and finishing the gourd, you will attach a goatskin head (from Ivory Coast in Africa) with rings and rope. A demonstration for final tuning will be provided. Or craft an African talking drum by preparing a mango wood drum shell body and 4 steel rings. Then attach African goat skin with drum rope and make a beater. Playing techniques will be discussed.
